Project Overview
HAUS is a hostel brand concept developed as part of a Visual Design and Prototyping module. The project focused on designing a welcoming and easy-to-use website for a budget-friendly hostel chain targeting backpackers in the United Kingdom. The design communicates affordability, adventure, and a strong sense of community while supporting clear navigation and booking exploration.
Goals
Create a clear online presence for a new hostel brand
Appeal to young, adventurous travellers
Communicate trust, affordability, and community
Apply consistent and user-friendly interface design principles
Process
The project began with research into backpacker travel behaviour and competitor hostel websites. I developed user personas, defined the brand personality, and explored visual elements such as colour, typography, and imagery. These insights guided the creation of high-fidelity website screens focused on clarity and engagement.
Challenges
The main challenge was combining an energetic, adventure-driven visual style with a clean and easy-to-navigate layout. This was addressed by using clear structure, readable typography, and strong visual hierarchy.
Outcome
The final design presents HAUS as a friendly, trustworthy, and adventure-oriented hostel brand. The project demonstrates strong visual design, branding, and website UI skills, showing the ability to translate brand identity into a functional digital experience.
